Their hull form was sleek and graceful, taking a classic cruiser form. While the Duquesne-class lineage was apparent, the Suffren-class had a much more modern look about them. Armour protection was somewhat better than the preceding class, though speed was reduced as a consequence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn June 1940 Colbert joined other French ships in Operation Vado, the bombardment of Genoa and Vado in Italy. Following the Franco-German armistice on 25th June the Marine Nationale ceased all offensive operations.
